When the Things that Matter get Pushed Aside

Jun 01, 2026

It's been a while since you've heard from me.

If you've been on my email list for any length of time, you've probably noticed the silence.

And truthfully, I've noticed it too.

Over the past several months, the writing and connection pieces of my business that I enjoy most have slowly drifted to the bottom of a very long priority list.

Not because I stopped caring about this work.

Not because I stopped thinking about the women I serve.

And certainly not because I ran out of things to say.

The truth is much simpler.

Life became a lot.

Like many of you, I've found myself trying to fit far more into a day than a day was ever designed to hold.

I've been balancing a demanding full-time job that has felt especially heavy while our team has been significantly short-staffed.

I've been navigating life as a mostly solo parent to a teenager with a busy schedule, spending countless hours driving her to and from competitive trampoline training, competitions, and everything else that comes with supporting a young athlete.

I've been keeping up with housework, bills, appointments, groceries, and all of the invisible responsibilities that somehow keep a household running.

I've been investing significant time and energy into my own health goals because I know how important it is to care for myself, even when it would be easier to put myself last.

I've been supporting friends and family members through difficult seasons and significant challenges of their own.

I've also been trying to create space for finding the right relationship, while continuing to heal from one of the most painful chapters of my life. Healing may not always be visible from the outside, but it still requires energy from the inside.

And somewhere in the middle of all of that, I've been trying to get enough sleep, maintain my sanity, and somehow keep all the plates spinning.

Maybe your list looks different than mine.

But I suspect you know what it's like to feel stretched thin.

To wake up already thinking about everything that needs to get done.

To move from one responsibility to the next.

To collapse into bed at night knowing there are still things waiting for your attention tomorrow.

Because here's what I've realized.

Many of us are carrying workloads that were never meant for one person.

Yet we continue expecting ourselves to function as though we have unlimited energy, unlimited time, and unlimited emotional capacity.

We tell ourselves we should be handling it better.

We should be more organized.

More disciplined.

More productive.

If we could just manage our time better, we'd finally get caught up.

But eventually reality catches up with us.

Not because we're weak.

But because we're human.

And when our plates become too full, something always gives.

For some women, it's their health.

For others, it's their finances.

Their relationships.

Their dreams.

Their own well-being.

For me, it was the writing, content creation, and connection that have always been such an important part of this work.

The conversations I enjoy.

The writing that helps me organize my thoughts.

The opportunity to connect with women who are navigating many of the same challenges.

Those were the things that slowly got pushed aside by the urgent demands of daily life.

Not all at once.

Just one postponement at a time.

I'll write next week.

Things should calm down soon.

I'll have more energy after this project is over.

After this competition.

After this appointment.

After this busy season.

But if there's one thing I've learned, it's that life rarely hands us a perfect opening.

There is always another responsibility waiting.

Another demand.

Another reason to postpone the things that matter.

And that's when I realized something important.

The things that matter most to us are rarely abandoned in one dramatic moment.

They disappear quietly.

One delay.

One excuse.

One distraction.

One "I'll get to it later" at a time.

Until one day we look around and realize we've drifted away from something that once felt important.

Maybe you've experienced this too.

Maybe there's a goal you've been postponing.

A habit you've been trying to restart.

A conversation you've been avoiding.

A dream you've quietly placed on a shelf.

A promise you've made to yourself that keeps getting pushed to "someday."

If so, I want you to know you're not alone.

Life has a way of pulling our attention toward whatever feels most urgent.

And when we're exhausted, overwhelmed, and carrying too much, it's easy to lose sight of what actually matters.

The good news is that we don't have to wait until everything is perfect to come back.

We don't need a flawless plan.

We don't need endless motivation.

We don't need to have everything figured out.

Sometimes we simply need to notice where we've drifted and choose to reconnect.

One step.

One choice.

One small action at a time.

That's what I'm doing.

And I'm grateful you're here.

Because if this season has taught me anything, it's that none of us are meant to carry everything alone.

Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is stop expecting ourselves to be superhuman, give ourselves grace for what we've been carrying, and gently return to the things that matter most.
